How to reflect on what you are passionate about and why.

Figuring out what really lights you up is a great way to get in touch with your passions. It’s like discovering what makes you feel alive and what you truly care about. Reflecting on these passions can help you align your life with what matters most. Let’s break it down step by step, and I’ll throw in a journal entry example to get you started.

Step 1: Think About What Excites You
Start by asking yourself what gets you excited or fills you with energy. This could be anything—your hobbies, creative projects, work, or even something that seems small, like gardening or cooking. If it makes you feel alive and you lose track of time when you’re doing it, it’s a passion.

Step 2: Dig Into Why It Matters
Once you’ve identified a passion, dig into the “why.” Why does this particular thing make you so happy? Does it give you a sense of purpose, or does it challenge you in a fun way? Maybe it’s tied to your values, or it allows you to express yourself in ways that feel meaningful.

Step 3: Reflect on How It Shows Up in Your Life
Think about how this passion is present in your life right now. Do you make time for it? Is it something you do regularly, or is it something you’ve been neglecting? Reflecting on how it fits into your day-to-day life helps you figure out if you need to prioritize it more.

Step 4: Notice the Impact
Now, consider how your passion impacts you. Does it make you happier, more fulfilled, or less stressed? Does it give you a sense of achievement or peace? These reflections can help you appreciate your passion even more.

Step 5: Set Intentions
After reflecting on your passion, set an intention to keep nurturing it. How can you make more space for this passion in your life? Maybe it’s about scheduling more time for it or finding new ways to explore it.

Step 6: Stay Curious
Passions evolve, so keep an open mind about how your interests might change over time. Staying curious allows you to explore new things that could become passions in the future.

Sample Journal Entry:

What I’m Passionate About and Why

Today, I took some time to reflect on what I’m really passionate about, and the first thing that came to mind is writing. I could spend hours getting lost in a good story or working on my journal, and it always leaves me feeling more grounded and connected to myself.

Why It Matters: Writing gives me a way to express myself when I can’t always find the right words in conversation. It’s where I feel most creative, and it helps me process my thoughts and emotions in a way that makes me feel understood—even if it’s just by myself.

How It Shows Up in My Life: I’ve been journaling regularly, but I haven’t really made enough time for creative writing lately. I used to set aside time for it every week, but now it’s become something I squeeze in when I can. I want to change that.

The Impact: When I’m writing, I feel more relaxed and in tune with my emotions. It helps me de-stress and also gives me a sense of accomplishment when I finish something. It’s definitely something I need more of in my life.

My Intention: Moving forward, I’m going to carve out at least one evening a week just for writing. I want to keep nurturing this passion because it makes me happy and helps me grow.
